For the 3rd year in a row, I’ve used Etsy to purchase my Kicks 4 the City Agora Charity Snearkball dress. To learn more about how I put together my 2018 Snearkerball look, click here.

I swear by Etsy, it’s one of my favorite websites to find affordable, custom made pieces. Keep reading to learn tips on how to shop Etsy and what helped me navigate this website.

  1. Use the search field and Be specific about the item you’re searching for

This may seem obvious but whenever you’re searching a platform like Etsy it can get very overwhelming especially when there’s over 35 million items for sale and you don’t know exactly what you’d like to purchase. I use keywords (red, high-low, tulle) and at least have an idea (Pinterest!) of the type of item you want to purchase. Even if you don’t find the exact match keep reading to find out how to easily solve that issue.

  2. Dive into the seller’s DMs:

Often times I want a specific style, size, or color that’s not shown as an add to cart option in the seller’s shop. Now I’m not asking them to create an entirely different item. Usually it’s either asking if the item they currently offer can be produced in the color needed or if they can make slight additions and/or subtractions so that it can resemble what I’m looking to purchase.

  3. If you need this item by a specific date make sure to mention this immediately to the seller through Etsy Direct Conversation

Since most items are handmade, this means they’re made by hand, meaning they may take a longer time to produce. So if you know you need an item for a specific event, reach out to the seller before purchasing so you’re not panicking and messaging the seller in a frenzy.

  4. During Checkout, use the NOTE sections to type order reminders

If it was a specific color, size measurements, style updates, deadlines; anything you’ve previously discussed in Etsy Conversations with the seller make sure to include this in the Notes section for additional reference while checking out.

  5. If you experience an issue with your purchase reach out to the seller first to see if the issue can be resolved.

Most of the time the sellers rely heavily on reviews and want to avoid bad ones so they’re willing to resolve any issues. I once had a sizing issue with a bikini I ordered on Etsy; the seller was very willing and able to fix it and shipped out a new item. If the seller isn’t able or willing to resolve the issue; escalate it and open an Etsy case.

  6. If you’re happy with your item Leave a Review!

Reviews are important and help the seller build and thrive on Etsy. If you received good do good and leave a good review with a picture!
